Meet Wesley Cullen Davidson
Wesley Cullen Davidson and psychiatrist, Jonathan L. Tobkes are the co-authors of an advice book for parents entitled When Your Child Is Gay: What You Need to Know. This book was awarded the Pinnacle Book Achievement Award for best parenting book in 2017 by the National Association of Book Entrepreneurs. Wesley’s popular blog Straight Parent, LGBT+ Kid gives tips for straight parents of LGBTQ children on how to deal with issues raising nonbinary children.
She has written on the topic of parenting LGBT+ children for magazines such as New York Metro Parents, Ann Arbor Parents, Florida Free Press, Curve, and several online magazines including Teen Vogue.com, Readers Digest.com, Broadway World.com and Diversity Rules.com. She has appeared on several radio shows including but not limited to: Lambda Weekly Radio Show and Talk of the Town, (Treasure Coast Radio), Psych up Live and The Patricia Raskin Show. Wesley and Dr. Tobkes were also interviewed by Newsday. Both authors spoke about their book at The LGBT Center and a Westside PFLAG (Parents of Lesbians and Gays) chapter in New York City. When the Davidsons moved to Florida, she was a guest speaker at several PFLAG meetings.
Davidson lost her gay son to substance abuse and now focuses her writing on addiction. She currently writes the blog whenyourchildisaddicted.com, and has written for Psychology Today.com with Joseph Shrand, M.D. a Davidson has written articles for Medshadow.org and Ravishly.com. She started a Facebook group: Kids on Drugs: Signs, Risks and How to Get Help! She also provides commentary for many online groups.
Davidson earned a B.A. in Art History from Finch College after she graduated from Choate Rosemary Hall. She attended N.Y.U. and The School of Visual Arts while she worked for the renowned art dealer Richard L. Feigen.
She and her husband currently reside in Florida, where she was a docent at The Vero Beach Museum of Art. Previously, they lived in Chappaqua, New York for twenty-five years.
