As of June 2, 2025, The U.S. Department of Education is commemorating women and their struggle for achievement of educational opportunity by prohibiting sex-based discrimination in a federally funded program. Title IX is a federal civil rights law of 1972 that prohibits discrimination based on sex. During Biden’s term, this policy didn’t mention trans athletes despite the fact that Title IX opened up many athletic and academic opportunities for women and girls in the United States. President Trump is trying to undo Biden-era transgender protections.
Setbacks during The Trump Administration
The LGBTQ+ population, particularly the youth, are disheartened with the new orders: banned books and curriculums, closing of a suicide hotline, HIV research, and the definition of sexual identity, to name a few issues. Despite these national retreats, Gay Pride Parades live on in major cities such as Boston, New York, San Francisco, Miami, Washington, D.C. Many have live cultural events to enhance the immersive experience. The theme of Gay Pride is Rise Up: Pride in Protest!
Not only are there Pride parades, but the message for IT GETS BETTER is also on-line. IT GETS BETTER: A Digital Pride Celebration has affirming stories all month that will make the LGBT population feel better, be valued, and “seen.” It’s about showing up, speaking out, and supporting the youth in particular.
How Does IT GETS BETTER Work On-Line?
It acts as a fund raiser. There are streamers, gamers, and celebrities like Jamie Lee Curtis who, with her trans daughter, Ruby Guest, are raising funds for the transgender population, for example. There is a list of dates for the lineup in June.
One can chat, follow or subscribe on Twitch.TV/IT GETS BETTER. In many ways, it may allay the fears of those who may fear the violence in the crowds that can be rowdy.
